Downing Street Garage Services Team
We focus on listening to your concerns and ask you questions like, "what did you see, hear and smell?" in order to help diagnose your vehicle's issues. We'll ask you if you've noticed any changes in acceleration, engine performance, gas mileage, fluid levels, handling or braking — all geared to get to the heart of your vehicle's issue quickly.
Our shop is clean, so you'll feel at home every time you visit, and our friendly team is here for you, from our shuttle driver and front office staff to our ASE Master Certified Technicians.
We really have your back and will make future repair recommendations to help you prevent unexpected breakdowns, maintain your vehicle's warranty, improve your gas mileage and extend the life of your vehicle.
Meet the Team...
Douglass and Rebecca Kirchdorfer are co-owners of Downing Street Garage (DSG), a successful auto repair shop in Denver, Colorado. Together, their core values have shaped the DSG mission "to build respectful, long lasting relationships with customers, employees, vendors, the community and the environment," which is accomplished by endorsing the principles of sustainable business: financial stability, environmental stewardship and social responsibility into the organization's values and culture.
Douglass launched his first auto repair shop in 1984 because he saw the need for an honest, reputable, local automobile repair shop. As the business grew, he moved to what is now known as Downing Street Garage, and the shop has been in its current location since 1998.
Rebecca joined Douglass, in 1991 and they have collectively grown their small business to a level of receiving local and international recognition for ethics. Downing Street Garage has won such prestigious awards as the 2003 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics, the 2004 Colorado Ethics in Business Award and the 2004 Better Business Bureau International Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.
Both Douglass and Rebecca are committed to the community in which they live and work. Rebecca recently completed a seven year BOD term with the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce and currently works with various community organizations such as Young Americans Center for Financial Education, Colorado Ethics in Business Alliance Leadership Council, the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau Torch Award Selection Committee, the Greater Good Academy, the Colorado Environmental Leadership Committee and the City of Denver's Pollution Prevention Partners Program. Douglass gives back to his industry through the Automotive Service Association (ASA) National Mechanical Operations Committee, ASA National Automotive Aftermarket Parts Quality Committee, SkillsUSA Local, State and National Competition Judge, Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau Torch Award Selection Committee, and as former President of ASA Colorado.
Team Profiles:
Todd Kirkland - ASE Master Certified Technician
Q: How long have you worked at Downing Street Garage?
A: I moved to Denver from Texas in late 2006 and saw Technician ads for DSG on an internet networking site. I interviewed with Douglass and began my tenure in January 2007.
Q: What do you do as a Technician?
A: We work on all makes and models of cars, trucks, SUV's and Hybrids. My specialty is in the newer cars which have so many computer systems, focusing on fuel injection, heater core, dash work and all of the HVAC systems.
Q: What satisfies you personally about your job?
A: I like the "hard fixes"! When a customer comes to our shop with a problem that other shops have not been able to diagnose or fix, I really get a kick out of finding the problem and fixing it, right on the spot. Of course, this isn't the case with every repair, but it makes my job really gratifying when we can do what others cannot.
Q: What do you think the customers appreciate the most about what you do?
A: For me, it's about the things that the customer does not see. It's the little things like topping off the windshield washer fluid, shampooing the engine or fixing a loose wing harness that is outside of the general repair or maintenance that is being completed. We want our customers to be safe on the road and we make every effort to make that happen.
Bobby Saunders - ASE Master Certified Technician
Q: How long have you worked at Downing Street Garage?
A: Seven years total, but five years since we moved back to Denver from North Carolina.
Q: What do you do as a Technician?
A: We work on all makes and models of cars, light trucks and SUV's and we have the technology to work on new cars, but I specialize in the older cars with carbureted engines – maybe that's because I restored my own 1970 Nova.
Q: What satisfies you personally about your job?
A: I really resonate with our management's directive of not letting a vehicle drive away from the shop until its "ready to go"! I get tremendous satisfaction from diagnosing the hard to diagnose . . . it's like finding the needle in the haystack so to speak.
Q: What do you think the customers appreciate the most about what you do?
A: We are extremely detailed in our processes and our work so that our "comeback" rate is minimal. I think this is important to our customers because they can trust that we know what we are doing, and do it right the first time.
Nick Grubb - ASE Master Certified Technician
Q: How long have you worked at Downing Street Garage?
A: Two years
Q: What do you do as a Service Technician?
A: My focus is in general repair and maintenance and I work on all makes and models of vehicles. We use computer systems in the shop that are networked to all the information systems that we need to make our work seamless and efficient. Several years ago, the owners installed wireless tablet notebooks at all of our workstations to enable us to diagnose and service customer vehicles on the spot. I really like the technology!
Q: What satisfies you personally about your job?
A: I like helping our customers get back on the road quickly. Doing a good job and getting the work done right the first time is really the best.
Q: What do you think the customers appreciate the most about what you do?
A: Getting the diagnosis correct, and fixing the problem quickly and efficiently are priorities, but I think our customers really like the value-added services we provide like washing their windows, applying Rain Ex, lubing doors, re-hanging license plates or filling up their windshield washer fluid.
